Samsung Teases 3D Capture Feature for Galaxy XR Ahead of Launch

The Galaxy XR headset is expected to be announced later this month, reportedly on September 29. As we inch closer, Samsung may have confirmed not only the name of the XR headset but also an exciting feature that’s coming.
Now we know that it will be called Galaxy XR, officially!
Ice Universe shared that the Camera Assistant app v4.0.00.4 lets you record 3D video for the Galaxy XR. That’s not the most exciting part though, as Samsung also confirmed the headset’s name somewhere in the settings. It is almost official now: it will be called Galaxy XR. This is the same name that has appeared in many leaks recently.

Moreover, the Camera Assistant app reveals that users will be able to capture 3D photos and videos. The new option appears as a separate button in the camera interface. This lets users to record spatial content that can be viewed on the Galaxy XR headset. A video shared by Ice Universe showed this feature in action, with footage recorded in 4K at 30 frames per second and labeled “Shot in 3D” within the gallery app.

This feature is similar to what Apple offers with its Vision Pro headset, where users can create and view immersive content. By allowing 3D capture, Samsung is making the Galaxy XR much like anyone would expect from a Vision Pro rival. You can also create personalized content. Likewise, it seems only flagships such as the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and the Galaxy S25 series will support this feature depending on their camera hardware. SamMobile notes that although the new app runs on the Galaxy S25 FE, the feature does not appear, which suggests it will only work on flagship models.

Of course, it won’t come cheap. Reports suggest a launch price between KRW 2.5 million and 4 million, which is about $1,800 to $2,000. The final price may vary depending on regional taxes and exchange rates. But it’s expected to be much lower than Apple’s $3,499 Vision Pro.
