Samsung is making big changes to its Galaxy S flagship lineup next year. The familiar Plus model appears to be gone, replaced by the ultra-slim Galaxy S26 Edge. More intriguingly, the base model is being rebranded as the Galaxy S26 Pro instead of just Galaxy S26. But does the “Pro” label truly fit? Let’s take a closer look at the phone’s supposed pro-level upgrades.

What makes the Galaxy S26 Pro a “pro”?

At first glance, the Galaxy S26 Pro is a little bigger overall. It measures 149.3 x 71.4 x 6.96mm, compared to the Galaxy S25’s 146.9 x 70.5 x 7.2mm frame. Samsung has trimmed the thickness by over 0.2mm while stretching the phone by 2.4mm in height and roughly 1mm in width. These tweaks give the device room for a slightly larger 6.3-inch display, up from 6.2 inches on its predecessor.

The Galaxy S26 Pro also packs a larger battery, jumping from 4,000mAh to 4,300mAh. Unfortunately, charging speed is still capped at 25W, a letdown in 2026, when most flagships offer double or triple those speeds. Still, Samsung isn’t stopping there, with a few more upgrades lined up.

Rumors suggest the Galaxy S26 Pro will feature a new 50MP primary camera and a 50MP ultrawide lens (replacing the 12MP unit). It may also get built-in Qi2 magnets for magnetic accessories, a first for any Galaxy device. Samsung clearly sees these upgrades as justification for the “Pro” branding, though opinions may differ.

While the S26 Pro still feels underwhelming in some respects, it does bring meaningful improvements over the Galaxy S25. A better zoom lens (possibly the S26 Ultra’s 5x unit) and faster charging (at least 45W) would have made the “Pro” moniker more convincing. Ultimately, it depends on how you define “Pro.” Stay tuned for more on the Galaxy S26 series as leaks continue to surface.
