Samsung SmartThings Expands to 430 Million Users, 390 Partners

Samsung’s long-term bet on the smart home continues to pay off. More than a decade after acquiring SmartThings in 2014 and unifying its smart home efforts under a single platform, the company is seeing sustained and accelerating user growth. As of December 2025, SmartThings has surpassed 430 million global users, 390 partners, and 4,700 connected devices.

Since the acquisition, Samsung has steadily expanded SmartThings from a basic device-control platform into a broad smart home ecosystem that connects appliances, TVs, mobile devices, and sensors. SmartThings acts as a central control layer that ties everything together. Users can automate routines, monitor energy usage, receive alerts, and manage their homes remotely, all from a single app.

Not just Samsung’s in-house products, but SmartThings also supports a wide range of devices from over 390 partners. According to the company, third-party partnerships improve consumer experiences. More partners also means more data on users and usage patterns, enabling tighter integration. Samsung has been focusing on enhancing convenience, automation, and cross-device intelligence, and users appear to be responding.

SmartThings grew from 350 million users in September 2024 to 430 million at the end of last year. For a mature smart home platform, that pace of growth is notable. SmartThings added 80 million users in just over a year, which is a pretty sharp increase. If current momentum continues, it appears to be on track to cross 500 million users by the end of 2026, placing it among the largest consumer IoT platforms in the world.

Alongside the user milestone, Samsung announced a partnership with Hartford Steam Boiler, aimed at lowering insurance costs for homeowners. The collaboration aims to translate smart home adoption into tangible financial benefits for users. Through SmartThings-connected devices, homeowners can reduce risks related to water leaks, fire hazards, and equipment failures, factors that directly impact home insurance premiums.
