Samsung has taken a new step toward making home insurance more affordable. The company has announced Smart Home Savings, a new service that helps homeowners lower their home insurance premiums by using connected Samsung appliances. As of now, the service is available in the United States and will expand to Europe and other global markets throughout this year.

Samsung and Hartford Steam Boiler help smart homeowners save on insurance

Samsung has developed Smart Home Savings in collaboration with Hartford Steam Boiler (HSB), Munich Re’s powerhouse for technology-driven risk management services and a leading provider of equipment and appliance insurance. The service uses the SmartThings platform to help insurance companies identify homes that are safe against common risks.

Samsung smart home appliances can detect early warning indicators, such as small water leaks or unusual activity. When these appliances are connected to the SmartThings app, they can notify homeowners about issues. Insurance companies may recognize homes with these connected appliances as having a stronger safety profile. As a result, they can apply policy credits that reduce premiums. This shows how technology can play a role in reducing home insurance.

Homeowners can enjoy Smart Home Savings by opting in through the SmartThings app. This will allow participating insurance carriers to confirm that their home includes connected Samsung appliances. The process involves an assessment with no additional cost. Samsung and HSB tested the service in Florida in 2025 with major US home-insurance carriers. Note that savings vary by insurer, state, and individual home.

“HSB, through our proprietary platform, is helping connect Samsung and insurers to give families access to both protection and affordability,” said Greg M. Barats, President and Chief Executive Officer of HSB Group Inc. “A connected home is a safer home, the early results are strong and we look forward to expanding the service with leading carriers across the US.”
