Samsung Drops Controversial Camera Design in Galaxy Z Fold 7

We are just a few days away from the debut of Samsung’s much-anticipated book-style foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Ahead of its official unveiling, a new leak recently shed light on its rear camera design element. Samsung has implemented a ringless camera module on the new Fold, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 5.

Samsung ditches Saturn ring camera design on Galaxy Z Fold 7 after backlash

Introduced with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and then ported to the Galaxy S25 Ultra, the Saturn ring camera design faced negative responses from many fans and reviewers. While the Korean firm tried to give its flagship lineup a fresh look, it felt like cheap design for a premium device. As Samsung reportedly used glue to fit the rings around the lens, there are concerns that they may fall off over time. It happened to a user a few weeks ago — the camera ring of the Galaxy S25 Ultra fell off on its own.

As a result, Samsung has decided not to adopt the same design for its new book-style foldable. According to a notable tipster @UniverseIce, the Korean firm quietly abandoned the Saturn ring design during the final stages of development. It features a more refined camera layout, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 5. Tipster added, “Samsung finally listened to the voice of users and abandoned the ugly design.”

Samsung originally planned to continue the Saturn Ring camera design with its new foldable model, as seen in early engineering prototypes shown below. It’s great to see that Samsung has finally taken user feedback seriously and brought back the traditional camera design.
