Google Photos Adds “Spatial” Magic Ahead of Galaxy XR

We’re inching closer to the Galaxy XR launch event, and there’s a lot we’re hoping to see in the coming days. It not only marks the birth of the Galaxy XR but also the debut of the Android XR platform. Of course, Google won’t sit this one out, and we’re already starting to see some promising signs.
Google Photos finally adds a “Spatial” tab ahead of Android XR debut
In a report from Android Authority, the outlet revealed that it spotted a new “Spatial” option in version 7.5 of the Google Photos app. You can’t see the feature just yet, as the team managed to activate it only through some internal tweaking. The good news is that we now have our first glimpse of what it will look like once it rolls out.
Google Photos is getting a new “Spatial” tab, which appears between the Photos and Collections tabs. This section gathers images captured using Panorama and Photosphere modes, according to the outlet. When you open a regular photo, a message pops up suggesting you “Go immersive,” accompanied by a floating button above the image. However, the app currently crashes when you tap it, so the feature isn’t functional yet.

That’s not surprising, considering we recently saw support for capturing 3D images and videos appear in the Camera Assistant app. It looks like we won’t have to wait much longer to see how all of this comes together.
Samsung is set to announce the Galaxy XR headset on October 21, and you can check out the details on how to watch the event live. Reservations are already open — they’re free and come with $100 in credits. Plus, if you plan on buying the Galaxy XR using our link, there are some bonus gifts waiting for you as well.
