Samsung might skip the Galaxy S26+ next year, but the lineup could still include three models. The company may position the S26 Edge between the base S26 and the S26 Ultra, rather than launching it separately. A new report reveals the internal codenames for these devices and offers fresh details about the ultrawide camera on the non-Ultra models. Spoiler alert — an upgrade is in the works.

50MP ultrawide camera for the Galaxy S26+ / S26 Edge

According to a report from WinFuture, Samsung’s internal codenames for the Galaxy S26 lineup are NPA1 (S26), NPA2 (S26+ or S26 Edge), and NPA3 (S26 Ultra). Here, NPA reportedly stands for “Next Paradigm,” following the PA (Paradigm) codename scheme used for the Galaxy S25 series.

Among the most exciting revelations is the camera setup on the NPA2, which could launch as the Galaxy S26+ or S26 Edge. It may feature a 50MP ultrawide camera — a massive jump from the 12MP fixed-focus sensor used in the S25+. Not only would this deliver sharper, more detailed photos, but it also paves the way for 8K video recording. Moreover, autofocus support could mark a huge usability improvement for close-ups and action shots.

It’s possible that this 50MP sensor could be the same ultrawide unit introduced in the Galaxy S25 Ultra earlier this year, which received praise for its clarity and low-light performance. Samsung usually offers the same cameras on the base and Plus models, so this upgrade may also apply to the Galaxy S26.

That said, the story could be different if Samsung ends up scrapping the Galaxy S26+ in favor of the Edge. The latter may sport a different camera setup from the base model because of its slimmer profile. We will have to wait until more details emerge. The Galaxy S26 Ultra is rumored to upgrade to a 200MP Sony sensor. There are also reports of Samsung switching to a 50MP 3x telephoto zoom camera across the lineup.
