Galaxy S24 Series Joins One UI 8 Development as Beta Nears

After releasing two One UI 8 beta builds for the Galaxy S25 series, Samsung has ramped up One UI 8 firmware development for other models. A few hours ago, the first One UI 8 firmware for the Galaxy S25 Edge surfaced on the company’s servers. Now, a similar test build of the upcoming update for the Galaxy S24 Ultra has appeared on its servers, hinting at ongoing internal tests.
Galaxy S24’s One UI 8 development picks up pace
This is the first real progress we’ve seen for the Galaxy S24 family since One UI 8 builds began appearing for other models like the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy Z Fold 6. With the firmware now live on Samsung’s servers, there’s a high chance the company will roll out a beta update for the 2024 flagships later this month. So far, it has only announced the beta for the Galaxy S25 series.
Samsung has already confirmed that it will introduce One UI 8 at the upcoming Unpacked. The event may take place on July 9 in New York City. The Galaxy Z Fold 7, Flip 7, and Flip 7 FE are all expected to run the Android 16-based update out of the box. The Korean behemoth may begin a wider rollout for other models in August or September.
One UI 8 will mark the second major software update for the Galaxy S24 series. Launched with Android 14 and One UI 6.1, these phones are entitled to seven years of OS and security updates. Going forward, they will receive five more major OS upgrades — up to Android 21/One UI 13.
That said, One UI 8 isn’t expected to be a groundbreaking update in terms of features. Early leaks suggest a more iterative release, focusing on under-the-hood improvements and subtle enhancements, rather than headline-grabbing features. So if you’re not in the beta, you’re not missing much — yet. Stay tuned for the official release next month.
