Samsung is finally rolling out a long-awaited software update for the Galaxy Watch 4 series in the US. The update, which includes the March 2025 security patch, is currently available for Verizon-locked LTE models and is expected to reach more users nationwide in the coming days. It comes at a time of growing uncertainty over whether the Watch 4 series will receive the upcoming One UI 8 Watch upgrade.

Galaxy Watch 4 grabs a new update in the US

This Galaxy Watch 4 update originally started rolling out in international markets in late April. It has finally reached the US units, carrying firmware version IYCD, the same as international units. The changelog confirms that the 2021 Samsung smartwatches are getting nothing more than the March 2025 security patch, which addresses a bunch of vulnerabilities.

You can manually check for the update via the Galaxy Wearable app on your connected smartphone. Go to Watch settings > Watch software update > Download and install. Ensure sufficient battery and a stable Wi-Fi connection before downloading the OTA (over the air) package. Disabling Bluetooth connection and forcing the watches to a Wi-Fi network may speed up the process when transferring the update file to the watch.

These watches may not get One UI 8 Watch

The Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic were Samsung’s first Wear OS-powered smartwatches, debuting in August 2021. The company promised regular feature updates and security patches for four years. The watches are now approaching the end of their update lifecycle. The latest release could be one of the last updates for the lineup.

It’s unclear if Samsung plans to update the duo to One UI 8 Watch, based on Wear OS 6. The company recently announced a beta program for the upcoming OS upgrade, but left the Watch 4 series out of the eligibility list. Only the Galaxy Watch 5 and newer models are confirmed to get the beta, and possibly the stable release.

Still, Samsung hasn’t officially confirmed that the Galaxy Watch 4 will not receive One UI 8 Watch. Until then, there’s always a slim chance of a surprise inclusion. After all, the promised support period doesn’t end until August this year, while One UI 8 Watch is all set to debut next month with the Galaxy Watch 8 lineup. Stay tuned for more.
