Galaxy AI Features Will Stay Free After 2025, Samsung Clarifies

Samsung has officially confirmed that Galaxy AI will remain free forever, putting an end to months of speculation. While earlier statements suggested the features might only be free until the end of 2025, the company has now clarified that its core AI tools will not be moving behind a paywall. Galaxy users can finally breathe easy — those powerful AI features on their phones will continue to be free of charge.

Ever since Samsung launched Galaxy AI, one question has loomed large: Will these tools always be free? The confusion stems from Samsung’s repeated messaging that Galaxy AI would be “free for a limited time,” often with a vague “end of 2025” deadline attached. Naturally, this led users to wonder whether they’d eventually have to pay to continue using the AI features already built into their phones.

Now, Samsung has officially cleared the air — and there’s good news for Galaxy device owners. In a statement to Android Police, the Korean firm confirmed that all Galaxy AI features that are available “on your phone by default” will remain free forever. In other words, any feature that comes pre-installed will not be put behind a paywall, even after 2025.

Basically, all the features you see under the Galaxy AI menu in Settings should remain free. These include Live Translate, Writing Assist, Interpreter, Note Assist, Transcript Assist, Browsing Assist, Generative Edit, Sketch to Image, Audio Eraser, Portrait Studio, AI Wallpaper, Now Brief, and Health Assist. These tools are deeply integrated into Samsung’s core apps and One UI, and are created and maintained in-house.

However, Galaxy devices also offer AI features powered by Google’s Gemini AI. Those tools fall outside Samsung’s direct control. While many of these capabilities are currently available for free, Google may choose to charge for them in the future. In fact, Gemini Advanced, a paid tier with more powerful tools, already exists.

Perhaps this is why Samsung repeatedly notes that Galaxy AI will be free “until the end of 2025,” even though it doesn’t plan to charge anything beyond that. It may be a precautionary measure in case partners like Google (or future collaborators) introduce paywalls. This way, Samsung avoids legal issues if third-party AI services eventually require subscriptions.
