Does the Galaxy S26 Ultra Support TriFold-Like DeX?

Some time ago, Samsung launched the Galaxy Z TriFold, and one of its more compelling features is that it’s able to run DeX without requiring an external display. That’s noteworthy because, despite its generous screen real estate, it’s still a phone. This distinction matters, as Samsung tablets already support standalone DeX functionality. But does the newly announced Galaxy S26 Ultra have this ability?

So does the Galaxy S26 Ultra offer a TriFold-like standalone DeX experience?

Sadly, it doesn’t. There are a couple of reasons for this. For one, the Galaxy S26 Ultra still comes with a comparatively limited display size when measured against the Galaxy Z TriFold or any Samsung tablet. Secondly, it wouldn’t make much sense for Samsung to enable this capability on the Ultra model in the first place.

You’ll still need to rely on an external display to use DeX on Galaxy S26 Ultra. You can connect to a monitor either via cable or wirelessly, and the experience is reliable in both cases. Samsung has also made meaningful DeX improvements with One UI 8, including an adjustable grid layout, the ability to pin apps to the taskbar, and expanded display resolution options that go up to 1440p.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy S26 series ships with One UI 8.5, which packs more features than you’d normally expect from a point update. That’s largely because it’s based on Android 16 QPR2. As a result, DeX sees further refinements, including support for multiple desktops and partial screen recording. These additions represent a notable productivity boost, particularly for power users.
