Galaxy S26 Ultra’s S Pen lacks Bluetooth features

Samsung removed Bluetooth functionality from the S Pen starting with last year’s Galaxy S25 Ultra. The company cited extremely low usage of Air Actions and remote control features. According to Samsung, only a small percentage of users actively relied on Bluetooth gestures, camera shutter controls, and media navigation.

Given that data, there was little reason for the Korean giant to reverse course this year. Reintroducing Bluetooth would have added extra internal components, asupercapacitor for charging, additional weight, and slightly higher production costs. Instead, Samsung continues to offer a streamlined S Pen experience focused on writing, sketching, annotating, and productivity, the features most users actually depend on.

For most buyers, the removal of Bluetooth has never been a dealbreaker. As a long-time Ultra user, I have hardly missed the S Pen features Samsung removed from the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The features were handy, but I only used them once in a while, surely not as much as other basic S Pen features.

Some industry watchers believe this could signal a longer-term shift. Samsung may gradually move away from integrating the S Pen directly inside Ultra flagships and instead offer it as an optional external accessory, similar to how stylus support worked on its earlier Fold devices.

Nothing has been announced on that front yet, but the simplification of the S Pen hardware suggests Samsung is carefully evaluating its long-term strategy. For now, the Galaxy S26 Ultra continues to include a built-in S Pen, but without Bluetooth connectivity.
