Word on the street is that Samsung is planning a major shake-up with its upcoming Galaxy S26 series. The Plus variant is reportedly being phased out and will be replaced by the new Galaxy S26 Edge. Naturally, the S26 Edge is expected to offer several upgrades, particularly in terms of battery capacity.

Galaxy S26 Edge may skip silicon-carbon tech, yet boost battery in thinner body

Ice Universe recently revealed that the Galaxy S26 Edge will feature a 4,200mAh battery packed into an ultra-slim 5.5mm profile. That means we can expect upgrades in at least two areas: battery capacity and design. For comparison, the current Galaxy S25 Edge (review) houses a 3,900mAh battery and measures 5.8mm thick. If the 5.5mm figure holds true, the Galaxy S26 Edge would become the thinnest Galaxy phone ever. Once again.

When Ice Universe shared this information on X, the tipster didn’t confirm whether Samsung is using silicon-carbon battery tech with Galaxy S26 Edge. So far, there have only been rumors that the company might adopt it for the upcoming lineup. But nothing has been confirmed. Interestingly, the tipster now claims that the Galaxy S26 Edge’s battery delivers energy output comparable to silicon-carbon (Si-C) batteries, even though it doesn’t actually use the technology.

In other words, Samsung may have developed a highly advanced battery without relying on silicon-carbon materials. The tipster also noted that no other phone brand has managed to fit a larger battery into such a thin device. If this is accurate, the Galaxy S26 Edge could be a standout piece of engineering.

Meanwhile, reports from Weibo suggest that the battery might even be 4,400mAh, which would make the achievement even more impressive.

There’s still some time to go before Samsung officially unveils the Galaxy S26 series, so more leaks will surface. The upcoming lineup is expected to include the Galaxy S26 Pro, Galaxy S26 Edge, and Galaxy S26 Ultra. All models will reportedly ship with One UI 8.5, which, as the name implies, will be the second major update following One UI 8.
