One UI 8.5 Could Launch With Galaxy S26 Series, Test Build Suggests

It looks like Samsung is making some changes to its One UI release cycle strategy. A fresh report revealed that the next version will be One UI 8.5, debuting alongside the upcoming Galaxy S26 series. Based on Android 16, this build may bring substantial improvements to the software over One UI 8.
Samsung’s upcoming One UI 8.5 spotted in test build
Earlier this month, Samsung made its latest One UI 8 official with the seventh-generation foldables. So, a natural question might arise: will the company introduce an incremental update like One UI 8.1 or 8.5, or jump directly to One UI 9?” We now have an answer, thanks to early test firmware bearing version number S948USQU0AYG8. The build in question is for the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
While digging through the test build, SamMobile spotted a mention of One UI 8.5. So, unlike the jump from One UI 7 to One UI 8, the company is indeed planning an incremental update for the next version. In fact, just a few days ago, a well-known tipster suggested the same, claiming that Samsung will introduce One UI 8.5 next.

Since this build will ship with Samsung’s mainstream 2026 Galaxy S flagships, it may bring a redesigned UI, new AI capabilities, and an enhanced software experience. As you know, this year, Samsung unveiled its Android 16 custom skin earlier than expected. The reason is that the firm is also adopting Google’s new Trunk Stable development model, which speeds up the process.
As a result, we can expect future major One UI builds to arrive earlier each year, closely aligned with Android’s development timeline. For now, all eyes are on the One UI 8 rollout — the latest stable software is currently available only on the new foldables. The company began beta testing for its Galaxy S25 series a few weeks ago, and it will likely reach the stable channel next month. We will let you know when Samsung begins pushing the final version to older Galaxy devices.
