Samsung’s upcoming launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 could face serious challenges in the US, following newly announced tariffs by President Donald Trump. The policy has sparked concerns over potential price hikes and limited availability for American consumers. The company should officially unveil the new foldables in the first half of July.

Trump’s Tariffs target phones made outside the US

In a recent announcement, Trump declared a new 25% import duty on smartphones manufactured outside the United States. Since Samsung relies heavily on Vietnam to produce the majority of its devices bound for the US market, this is a serious concern for the Korean firm. Vietnamese-manufactured smartphones are already under threat of a 46% import duty as part of broader reciprocal tariffs.

Although the Trump administration has temporarily paused these duties for select “friendly” markets, the new announcement could override that pause, particularly if companies fail to shift production stateside. The message is clear: Start manufacturing locally in the US or face tariffs.

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 foldables could get caught in the crossfire. Expected to debut next month, these devices are set to deliver refinements in design, including thinner builds and larger displays. However, with a 25% tariff looming — and potentially more from the paused reciprocal duties — they could see a significant price bump. There are already rumors about a price hike in some regions.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 currently starts at $1,899 in the US, while the Flip 6 begins at $1,099. A 20–40% price increase could drive the Fold 7 close to or even above $2,500, which may significantly impact consumer demand.

Could Samsung delay the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 launch?

Samsung made a last-minute decision to delay the launch of its Galaxy S25 Edge. The slim flagship was originally slated for a mid-April debut but was pushed back by over a month, only arriving in the US on Friday, May 30. According to reports, Trump’s tariff announcements triggered the delay. Samsung reportedly held off to evaluate the best market conditions for introducing the device amid growing trade uncertainty.

There’s a chatter that the company could do the same with the new foldables, but chances are slim. In all likelihood, Samsung will proceed with its planned launch for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7, but the new trade environment adds complexity. The pricing and availability in the US could see adjustments. While the 90-day pause on reciprocal tariffs remains in effect, it’s unclear how long that reprieve will last.
