SmartThings Introduces Smart Safety Alerts and Vehicle Integration

Samsung is improving its SmartThings platform by integrating smart safety and vehicle connectivity features. The former feature is already available via the latest update, while the latter will first roll out in Korea in the coming weeks before expanding to other markets.

Samsung designed the SmartThings Safe feature to improve the safety of daily life. It aims to support the growing number of single-person households and older adults who may need quick help. If a user feels unwell or faces danger, they can press a shortcut button on their smartphone or tablet screen.
This will share their location and time information in real-time with family registered in the SmartThings app. It will trigger notifications on smartphones, tablets, TVs, and Family Hub refrigerators. The company says that it will continue to improve the safety feature based on users’ usage experiences.

Samsung has partnered with Hyundai Motor Group to introduce the new Home-to-Car feature, which connects SmartThings to vehicles. Now users of Hyundai and Kia cars can check their car’s status through the SmartThings app. Furthermore, they can control a host of functions such as starting the engine, locking or unlocking doors, turning on the air conditioning, and starting or stopping EV charging.
It also lets you set up automated routines by linking with other devices in your home. For example, your car can start automatically when the smart door lock detects that you are leaving. Additionally, the air conditioning can be turned on in advance based on the weather forecast, making driving more comfortable.
The latest SmartThings update also improves customer service and makes the app easier to use. Users can send device status reports through the app and check past repair history, making after-sales service more convenient. This feature will first roll out in Korea and Australia, with plans to expand to other regions in the future. You can check for the latest update from the Google Play Store or Galaxy Store on your device.
