Samsung aims to help people manage their health better through its innovative wearable technology. For years, the company has been working with leading experts and partners to develop practical and life-changing solutions. It recently achieved breakthroughs in heart and brain health that could shape the future of preventative care.

Samsung aims to redefine the future of heart and brain health

Samsung says that its wearable technology will soon be able to detect and monitor Left Ventricular Systolic Dysfunction (LVSD) in the early stages. This is a serious heart condition that causes about half of all heart failure cases. At the same time, the company is improving brain-computer interface (BCI) technologies with immense potential in mental health management and productivity.

Heart failure has only a 50% survival rate five years after diagnosis. So, it’s important to detect LVSD early, as timely treatment and lifestyle adjustments could reduce hospitalization and lower the risk of death. Samsung has developed AI algorithms in collaboration with Medical AI, a leading Korean company specializing in AI ECG technology. These algorithms are based on Medical AI’s 12-lead ECG system.

With this technology, Samsung’s smartwatch became the first to gain LVSD detection capabilities, approved by South Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS). It also allows early screening for asymptomatic individuals and helps lower healthcare costs. Furthermore, it supports global healthcare goals such as personalized care and proactive health management.

In addition to the breakthrough in heart health, Samsung has developed an around-the-ear EEG prototype device, advancing BCI technology. For this, the company partnered with Hanyang University’s Department of Biomedical Engineering. Unlike traditional EEG systems, the Ear-EEG device is sleek and ergonomic. This allows seamless brainwave monitoring outside laboratory settings. It strategically placed electrodes around the ear to capture high-quality signals.

Furthermore, the device can accurately detect the onset of drowsiness in real-time. Thanks to its ability to analyze brainwaves using AI, it can identify personal video preferences with 92.86% accuracy. This research was featured in the IEEE Sensors Journal (Volume 25, Issue 18). Looking ahead, Samsung aims to shape the future of healthcare with technologies that are personalized, connected, and accessible to everyone.
