Samsung News Taps Yahoo Sports and Yahoo Finance for Live Updates

Starting today, Galaxy users in the US and Canada will see two major new features inside Samsung News. These include a dedicated Sports tab with live scores and a finance module showing real-time market data. Both are powered by Yahoo’s media arm, which runs Yahoo Sports and Yahoo Finance.
Samsung partners with Yahoo to bring Sports and Finance to Samsung News
The Sports tab gives fans live scores, schedules, standings, and stats from major leagues, with the option to follow favorite teams for more personalized updates. Meanwhile, the new finance section brings live stock information, tracking for major US indices, and a stream of market-related news stories.
The move is Samsung News’ first big expansion since it launched in 2023 as a built-in news app for Galaxy devices. Until now, the app has mostly relied on curated daily briefings and a customizable news feed with content from publishers like NBC News, ESPN, and Fox Business. The Yahoo partnership pushes it closer to a one-stop hub for live information that users might otherwise turn to separate apps for.
“Galaxy users turn to Samsung News multiple times a day for the latest headlines from the world’s top news sources,” said Maya Harris, Samsung’s VP of Strategic Partnerships. “Now they have another critical reason to tune in for live sports scores and financial market updates.”
Yahoo Media Group president Ryan Spoon framed the deal as a way to deliver “a smarter, faster way for Galaxy users to follow the scores, news, and market information that matters most to them.”
For now, the updates are rolling out in English to users in the US and Canada. Samsung says more regions and languages are coming soon, and the new features will work on all Galaxy devices released from 2023 onward.
