Samsung to Make 1 Million Galaxy Wide Fold This Year

It’s no secret that Samsung is gearing up to debut a new special foldable with a wider format. Tentatively dubbed the Galaxy Wide Fold, the company expects the smartphone to perform well in terms of sales. A fresh report claims that the firm plans to make around 1 million units of the device this year. This figure is more than any other special foldable edition released in the past three years.
Galaxy Wide Fold could solidify Samsung’s foldable lineup
According to a report from ETNews, Samsung has shared its production plans for the Galaxy Wide Fold with key partners. Initially, the company set a production target of around 1 million units, showing solid confidence in the new form factor. The phone could go official alongside the regular Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8 at the Unpacked event in Q3 2026.
Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold SE (released in 2024) shipped only about 500,000 units. In comparison, the Galaxy Z TriFold, the company’s first tri-fold phone, saw shipments of around 30,000 units. By contrast, the Galaxy Wide Fold’s production volume suggests a much more aggressive sales strategy.
The Galaxy Wide Fold stands out for its body shape, with a familiar book-style design. Unlike Galaxy Z Fold models, which open into a tall, narrow display, the wide model will use a 4:3 aspect ratio when unfolded. This will give a more tablet-like screen for watching videos, reading, and multitasking. The device may feature a 7.6-inch main foldable OLED display. There could be a 5.4-inch outer screen.
An industry insider said the Galaxy Wide Fold is no more difficult to make than last year’s TriFold. As such, Samsung may make more units depending on market response. Meanwhile, Apple could launch its first foldable device with the same 4:3 aspect ratio as the Korean firm’s offering this fall. So, Samsung will see more competition in the foldable phone market.
