Samsung’s Galaxy Wide Fold Surfaces in Early Mockups

It’s no secret that Samsung is working on a new Wide Fold phone to compete with Apple’s first iPhone Fold. Now, mockups of the device have emerged, giving us a clear look at what’s coming. The phone might launch in the second half of 2026 alongside the regular Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8.
Mockups reveal Samsung’s upcoming wide fold design
Last month, we learned that Samsung is developing two different Fold models for its 2026 lineup. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 could carry the model number SM-F976, while a second Fold device could bear SM-F971. Initially, this second model was assumed to be a more affordable Fold, with the company cutting some features to lower the price. However, later reports revealed that it is actually a completely different device with a passport-style design (now referred to as the Wide Fold).
Thanks to mockups created by tipster @UniverseIce, we now have a better idea of the Wide Fold’s new design. Unlike current Galaxy Z Fold models (tall and narrow), the Wide Fold appears shorter and wider. The mockups also show that the device looks very similar to the upcoming iPhone Fold. Both feature a punch-hole camera on the cover display. The key difference seems to be the corners: Samsung opts for a more square look, while Apple uses more rounded edges.

Speaking of display size, the Wide Fold may feature a 7.6-inch main display and a 5.4-inch cover screen. On the other hand, the iPhone could also feature nearly identical display dimensions (5.35-inch cover screen and a 7.58-inch inner display). This suggests that both companies are now leaning towards a wider foldable format, adopting a 4:3 layout.
Meanwhile, rumors suggest that Wide Fold may bring back S Pen support. Samsung dropped stylus support on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 to achieve a slimmer and lighter design. We should learn more details about the new format Galaxy Fold device in the coming months.
