Samsung is known to be developing a mysterious new foldable for 2026. Leaked model numbers hint at a Fold-style device rather than a Flip, though concrete details remain scarce. Now, fresh information suggests Samsung may be exploring a passport-style foldable design. Here’s what that could look like.

Take a look at Samsung’s passport-style foldable concept

Alongside the regular Galaxy Z Fold 8 (SM-F976), Samsung has a second Fold model in the pipeline for 2026. The model number SM-F971 fits perfectly for a Fold 8 FE (this year, Flip 7 was SM-F766 and Flip 7 FE was SM-F761). However, there’s no concrete evidence telling us Samsung is making an affordable Fold.

Meanwhile, there are rumors that Samsung is mulling a square-shaped foldable. It may feature an 18:9 cover screen and an 18:18 folding display. It appears this design is part of various Fold form factors the company is evaluating for the future. Among those concepts is a passport-style design, which you can see below.

This device essentially has a mini tablet on the outside and a bigger tablet on the inside, a departure from the current phone-cum-tablet Folds. This design reminded me of Microsoft’s short-lived Surface Duo lineup, though instead of connecting two screens, Samsung uses a real folding display here.

The Korean firm showcased this design in a recent survey about Fold form factors. We do not have info about dimensions and screen sizes, but the concept does look interesting.

Of course, a survey alone doesn’t confirm that Samsung will move forward with this foldable. Still, it shows the company is actively exploring ways to expand its foldable lineup. With the launch of its first TriFold and another Fold already rumored for 2026, the next few years look promising for foldable enthusiasts. Even Apple is entering this space soon, so Samsung’s push to diversify its foldable lineup couldn’t be more timely.
