This is What Samsung’s New “Square” Fold 8 Might Look Like

Samsung is reportedly planning a major expansion of its foldable lineup in 2026. In addition to the regular Galaxy Z Fold 8, the company could unveil a second model featuring a squarer main display. A trusted industry insider recently shared a mockup image offering an early look at this new “square” design.

The second Galaxy Z Fold 8 model reportedly features a nearly square 18:18 internal display aspect ratio. This design is noticeably different from Samsung’s current tall-and-narrow Fold lineup. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 has an aspect ratio of 18:20 (width-height). This means the new model will look like a square tablet when unfolded. Tipster Ice Universe created a mockup to visualize this design.

If Samsung goes ahead with the rumored design for the second Fold 8 model, it could end up looking like this. The final product will, of course, depend on details like corner curvature and bezel thickness, but the overall form factor should resemble Ice Universe’s mockup — a wide, boxy foldable. Unlike the tall, book-style Folds we’ve seen so far, this version leans more toward a “compact tablet” design.

Interestingly, this design may also resemble what Apple is reportedly targeting for its first foldable iPhone, expected in 2026. Samsung could be preparing this new Fold variant as a direct counter. With its lead in foldables shrinking as more rivals enter the market, Apple represents the toughest competition yet. The Korean firm surely can’t afford to be caught unprepared.

Reports suggest Samsung has already shared its plans for the new Fold with component suppliers. The specifications and features are expected to be finalized in the coming weeks, meaning development is at an advanced stage. The new model is rumored to launch alongside the regular Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8 in mid-2026.
