Samsung has started rolling out the September 2025 security update to eligible Galaxy devices. The Galaxy A36 is the first to pick up this month’s security patch, with users in the US leading the pack this time. The update should soon expand to more models and regions.

Galaxy A36 grabs Samsung’s September 2025 security update

Samsung recently rolled out new One UI 8 beta updates to a bunch of Galaxy devices, including the Galaxy A36. Those beta builds bundled the September SMR (Security Maintenance Release), ensuring enhanced security for beta testers. However, the latest security patch hadn’t hit any Galaxy model on One UI 7 or older — until now.

The Galaxy A36 is now receiving this month’s security update in the US, with carrier-locked units on AT&T’s network seemingly getting it first. The new firmware build number for the phone is A366USQS3AYI1 (thanks, @Mohammed_K_2010). The update should soon be available nationwide and expand to global markets.

The latest SMR for Galaxy devices addresses more than 80 vulnerabilities, including a few critical flaws in the Android OS and Galaxy components. This month’s release is one of the biggest in recent memory, so users should install the patch as soon as it hits their devices. You can always check for updates from Settings > Software update > Download and install.

Besides the Galaxy A36, the September 2025 security update will roll out to dozens of other models, including the Galaxy S25 series. Samsung is also gearing up to push the stable version of One UI 8 to its latest flagships later this month. One UI 8 should be widely available for other models in October. We will keep a close eye on the ongoing developments and let you know as soon as we have more information.
