Samsung Members App Ends Support For Devices Running Android 8

Samsung is now officially pulling the plug on support for the Samsung Members app on devices running Android 8. This follows the company’s earlier decision to discontinue support for Android 7. The move is unlikely to affect many users, given that Android 8 was released about eight years ago, meaning only a very small minority of users are still on that version.
Samsung pulls support for Members app on Android 8 starting July
Starting July 1, 2025, if you’re still rocking a Galaxy device stuck on Android 8 (Oreo), you’ll no longer be able to access the Samsung Members app. In other words, you’ll lose access to community forums, device diagnostics, and other app features.

For context, Samsung had already cut off access to the Members app for Android 7 (Nougat) users back on April 1, 2025. As for the reason behind this, the decision comes in response to recent changes in Samsung Members’ service operation policy. Dropping support for older OS versions isn’t exactly shocking. Android 7 launched over nine years ago, and Oreo is now almost eight years old. It’s common for apps to phase out support for legacy platforms as maintaining compatibility becomes more challenging and user numbers dwindle.
You can still check if your device is eligible for the Android 9-based One UI 1 update. For that, you’ll have to head to Settings > Software update. If an update is available, download and install it right away. Sure, it’s rare to have missed such an update after all these years, but it’s worth checking, just in case. Life’s full of surprises, anyway.
If there’s no update available, unfortunately, it’s time to say goodbye to the Samsung Members app on your current device. Alternatively, you might consider upgrading to a newer phone.
