It’s just been a few weeks since Samsung began selling its first triple-fold smartphone, the Galaxy Z TriFold, in select markets, including South Korea. However, a display damage case has now emerged, raising concerns about the durability of the company’s most advanced and expensive phone. The Korean firm has yet to share words on this case, but it does offer a one-time 50 percent discount on display repairs.

A Galaxy Z TriFold owner reports display damage

The Galaxy Z TriFold transforms a standard smartphone (6.5-inch) into a tablet-like device (10-inch), offering an immersive display. The phone features three panels with an inward-folding mechanism that operates in two steps. You need to fold the left panel first and then the right. The company also provides on-screen warnings and vibrations if you fold the device incorrectly.

Of course, this is an innovative design, but it also comes with potential durability challenges. A Galaxy Z TriFold user in South Korea said on the community forum that the screen went out after a month of use. As we can see in the image below, the device also appears to develop a thin vertical line in the left folding section. The user said there was no external shock, suggesting the issue may have stemmed from normal use or a manufacturing defect.

While this appears to be an isolated case at the moment, it raises questions about the long-term durability of Galaxy Z TriFold. The phone features the company’s advanced Armor FlexHinge to handle repeated folding. The main display underwent a 200,000-fold multi-cycle test, equivalent to around 100-fold daily for five years.

The user can now visit a Samsung service center to take advantage of the company’s premium care support benefits. This program offers a one-time 50 percent discount on repairs for damage to the main display of the Galaxy Z TriFold. That means the user can address screen issues without paying the full cost. Note that you must use this benefit within one year of purchase.
