Samsung’s Camera App Hints at Project Moohan XR Headset, Spatial Photo Support

After years of development and wait, Samsung’s XR headset might be ready for the big show. There are high chances that Samsung could pull the wraps off the Project Moohan much sooner now. While it could be a standalone device, it will also play nicer with the Galaxy devices. Ahead of the big show, we might have come across a tiny yet impactful detail regarding the upcoming Samsung’s XR headset.
Samsung’s Camera app drops early clues about upcoming XR headset
I maintain a community resource called the One UI Design Kit. Within it, there’s an icon repository, with vectors extracted directly from various Samsung apps. We do this by decompiling various apps and converting the icons to vectors, which can be used in design software like Figma. This process sometimes reveals hidden gems, such as components that align with Samsung’s XR headset design.
While decompiling the Camera app, we spotted a new icon that looks strikingly like the Samsung’s XR headset. It’s a little headset silhouette, eerily similar to the shape Samsung teased at Galaxy Unpacked earlier this year. Even better? The icon’s shaped has evolved from One UI 7 to One UI 8. You can check out the images below.

In addition, there’s also an animation which instructs users to tilt the phone sideways. You can check out that below as well.
Spatial photos could be coming with XR headset
But what’s it doing inside the Camera app? Samsung may be following Apple’s lead by letting users capture 3D images and/or videos on their Galaxy smartphones, giving them a window back in time to relive the moments they captured. These spatial photos would be viewable on the XR headset itself, and possibly on other devices too, such as smart glasses.
This discovery also raises a bigger question, what other ecosystem features will Project Moohan receive? We know it will be based on Android XR, Google’s competitor to Apple’s visionOS and Meta’s Horizon OS. But what Galaxy-exclusive goodies will be sprinkled into the mix for Samsung’s XR headset? Only time will tell, so stay tuned to find out.
Huge thanks to @tim_tom_0 for finding this!
