Among the three new foldable models, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is getting a strong response from consumers worldwide. For the first time, the Fold model has surpassed its Flip counterpart in pre-orders, accounting for 60% of sales. The company has now increased the shipment figure for the new Fold device by 9% compared to last year’s Z Fold 6. This shows Samsung’s confidence in the increasing demand for premium foldable smartphones.

Samsung bets big on Galaxy Z Fold 7 with 9% increase in shipments

According to a report from TheElec, Samsung plans to ship 6.1 million foldable devices this year. This includes newly released models, upcoming Tri-Fold, as well as older models from last year. Interestingly, this is the same figure as last year, suggesting that Samsung is taking a careful approach to overall foldable growth.

However, when we see the breakdown by model, it becomes clear that Samsung is shifting its focus to the book-style foldable. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 accounts for 2.4 million units, which is 9% more than the 2.2 million units shipped for the Z Fold 6. As for the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Z Flip 7 FE, Samsung plans to ship 2.3 million units and 700,000 units, respectively. The combined figure for the clamshell foldables is the same as last year’s shipment volume for the Z Flip 6 (3 million units).

Speaking of the new foldable lineup, Samsung has maintained the same price as its predecessor for the Z Flip 7, despite bringing meaningful upgrades. It has also introduced a cheaper Z Flip 7 FE, aimed at budget-conscious buyers. The Galaxy Z Fold 7, on the other hand, comes with a $100 price increase, but brings several improvements that make it Samsung’s best foldable device to date.

So, naturally, the Flip models should see stronger demand over the longer period, mainly with the addition of a more affordable option. However, early data suggests otherwise — the Galaxy Z Fold 7 has broken records in pre-orders, with over 600,000 units sold in its home country. This suggests that consumers are willing to pay a premium for a device like the Fold 7. Pre-orders end tomorrow, so hurry up.
