Galaxy Z Fold 7, Flip 7 Pre-Orders Double Compared to Last Generation

The seventh-generation Galaxy foldables are gaining a lot of traction around the world, suggesting that the niche market is moving toward the mainstream. In just two days since pre-orders began, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Flip 7, and Flip 7 FE have received over 210,000 bookings in India. A report now suggests that in its home country, Samsung has already recorded twice as many pre-orders compared to the previous lineup, thanks to a major leap in foldable technology.

Galaxy Z Fold 7 surprises Samsung with record pre-orders

Samsung has made substantial upgrades to its seventh-generation Galaxy foldables. It also debuted the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, aiming to cater to a wider audience with an affordable foldable option. However, the regular Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 are getting a solid response from fans globally. After all, the new book-style foldable is now slimmer, lighter, and wider, with a pro-grade 200MP camera. Likewise, the new clamshell foldable features a wider and more functional cover screen with improved battery life.

According to a report from ETNews, the current pre-order ratios across major carriers in South Korea (SK Telecom, KT, and LG Upus) are 40% for the Flip and 60% for the Fold. Interestingly, this is the first time that the Fold model has surpassed the Flip in early reservations. It’s quite surprising that, despite the steep price tag, consumers are favoring the Galaxy Z Fold 7 over the Z Flip 7.

“The most popular model is the Galaxy Z Fold 7, accounting for about 60% of all reservations,” said SK Telecom. Sharing a similar view, another carrier, LG Uplus, said, “Overall, it is more popular than its predecessor,” and “The Galaxy Z Fold 7 accounts for about 60% of all reservations.” Both carriers also said that customers are picking the Jet Black and Blue Shadow color options mainly.

As for overall sales, it’s not yet clear how many units the Galaxy Z7 series has booked in total, but the publication says that pre-orders have doubled compared to the previous generation. If this trend continues after the pre-order period ends, the new foldables could strengthen Samsung’s position in the foldable smartphone market.
