One UI 8 Now Available for Unlocked Galaxy S25 Units in the US

The wait is finally over for unlocked Galaxy S25 users in the US. Samsung has started rolling out the stable One UI 8 update to these devices, following an earlier release for carrier-locked variants and international models. Other Galaxy devices are expected to receive this update in the coming weeks.
Unlocked Galaxy S25 units finally get One UI 8 in the US
Samsung’s One UI 8 rollout kicked off in Korea on September 15 with the Galaxy S25 series, before quickly expanding to Europe and Asia. Yesterday, the update also began reaching users in North America, including those in the US and Canada. However, the initial release only covered carrier-locked units of the Galaxy S25, S25+, S25 Ultra, and S25 Edge.
We can now confirm the availability of One UI 8 for unlocked models too. The Android 16-based update carries the same firmware build version BYI3 as the rest of the world. For non-beta users, the OTA download weighs in at around 4GB, while beta testers are receiving a lighter 500MB patch. To install the update, head to Settings > Software update > Download and install.
While One UI 8 isn’t as packed with new features as One UI 7, it still delivers a host of refinements. Users can expect UI tweaks, smoother performance, and stability improvements across the board. If you just updated your Galaxy S25, here are a few things you should try first. The update will soon begin trickling down to older Galaxy devices, starting with the Galaxy S24 series.
Meanwhile, Samsung has started preparations for One UI 8.5, a relatively minor update, though it still counts as a major feature release for Galaxy devices. Expected to debut alongside the Galaxy S26 series early next year, this update should further improve the changes introduced with One UI 8, while bringing a few fresh features of its own.
