NVIDIA Teams Up with Samsung to Strengthen Its AI Hardware Stack

Samsung may have inked an important AI deal with Nvidia. While we still do not have official confirmation about Samsung’s entry into Nvidia’s HBM supply chain, the two firms have reportedly teamed up to develop custom non-x86 CPUs and specialized XPUs. This collaboration will help Nvidia expand its NVLink Fusion ecosystem and shape the future of AI hardware.

Samsung to help Nvidia strengthen its AI domination

NVIDIA, a leader in AI hardware, is taking steps to ensure its products cover the entire AI computing stack. The company recently collaborated with Intel, which allowed x86 CPUs to connect directly with NVIDIA platforms. Now, it has also joined hands with Samsung Foundry, the world’s second-largest foundry. Samsung will help in designing and manufacturing custom AI processors, effectively broadening the NVLink Fusion ecosystem.

NVLink Fusion is an IP architecture that enables high-speed, direct communication between CPUs, GPUs, and other accelerators, allowing more efficient data transfer and reduced latency for AI workloads. By leveraging Samsung’s end-to-end semiconductor capabilities — from design to production — NVIDIA gains a one-stop solution for its AI hardware ambitions.

Custom chips developed under this partnership will include NVIDIA-controlled communication controllers, ensuring the company maintains tight integration and control over its ecosystem. The goal is to thwart the growing competition from tech giants such as Google, OpenAI, AWS, Broadcom, and Meta, many of which are developing in-house chips to reduce dependence on NVIDIA hardware.

For Samsung, the partnership validates its investments in the foundry division, positioning it as a key supplier for high-value AI projects. The company benefits from working with a marquee client like NVIDIA, while NVIDIA gains access to Samsung’s cutting-edge production and design expertise. This could also ease the Korean firm’s path to NVIDIA’s HBM supply chain, if the deal isn’t already done.
