Now, Samsung has found a solution to this problem. According to tipster @UniverseIce, the company’s innovation lies in a laser-perforated metal support layer put underneath the OLED panel. This layer features tiny holes that act like spillways. When the screen folds, the stress doesn’t remain in a single line. Instead, it spreads out across a wider area. As a result, the stress does not create a visible crease, even though the force stays.

Basically, Samsung tries to make a creaseless foldable display by controlling stress rather than eliminating it. The best thing is that this solution doesn’t need impossibly soft OLED layers or flexible materials. It just guides the force, spreads it out, and prevents it from causing damage.

A previous report suggested that Apple could use Samsung Display’s advanced crease-free display on its first iPhone Fold.
