Google Meet Is Finally Getting The Full Emoji Library for In-Call Reactions

If you’re a frequent Google Meet user (and I’m guessing you are), you’ll soon have more options than just a simple thumbs-up or a confetti burst. Google has announced that it’s rolling out access to the full emoji library during Meet calls. The feature will arrive first on the web and Android.
Google meet will soon start rolling out full emoji library for reactions
When Google first added reactions to Meet in early 2023, the feature offered just nine options — including thumbs up, thumbs down, confetti and laugh — enough for quick feedback but far from the variety available elsewhere. With the latest update, users can now pick from nearly 4,000 emojis, the same set you’d find on Android’s Gboard or most modern keyboards.

The familiar emoji tab in Meet’s interface will get a small makeover too. A new “add” icon at the end of the panel opens the entire emoji catalog, complete with categories and a recents section for quick access. The expanded reactions won’t include Google’s Gboard-exclusive “Emoji Kitchen” combos, as 9to5Google notes. Then again, that’s not too surprising given their niche appeal.
The update is turned on by default for most Google Workspace users, though admins and meeting hosts can restrict it if needed. Specifically, the rollout will first reach the web and Android users (including your Galaxy). iPhone users will need to wait a little longer before they can send from the full set.
According to the announcement, the gradual rollout starts November 19 for Rapid Release domains and December 9 for Scheduled Release domains. Once it’s widely available, Google Meet calls are about to look a lot more colorful
That said, not everyone gets to play with the new toys just yet. Google Meet hardware kits and live stream viewers can still view the expanded reactions, but they won’t be able to send them. The same applies to iOS users until support arrives later.
