Gemini Live Could Soon Overlay Maps Details While You Share Your Vew

Google is continuing to improve its real-time voice assistant, Gemini Live, for a more seamless interactive experience. The company is now testing Google Maps info cards during camera sharing sessions. The feature is currently hidden within the latest beta APK of the Google app, so you can’t experience it right away.
Google is testing Google Maps info cards in Gemini Live
With Gemini Live, you can share your phone camera during a conversation with Gemini AI. This allows the assistant to see exactly what you are seeing in your surroundings. For example, you can point the camera at a historical landmark and get some information about it. It looks like the company now wants to display location information right on the viewfinder in the form of cards.
While digging through the Google app beta version 16.35.63, folks over at Android Authority discovered a new feature for Gemini Live. It shows preview cards on the camera sharing screen, containing the place’s name, type, average rating, and number of reviews. Thanks to Gemini Live’s integration with the Google Maps app, the AI assistant can pull this data without leaving the conversation.
As you can see in the above screenshots, when pointing the camera at a location, Gemini Live displays the preview cards directly on the screen. If multiple places have the same name in Google Maps, the assistant will show several preview cards. The publication says Gemini could have used the device’s location to reduce the results. That said, it is still in the testing phase, so the company is likely working on improving the feature. When Gemini Live detects a unique place name, it shows a single preview card.
As of now, the cards are read-only, but Google may make them clickable, allowing you to open the Google Maps app to get directions. We will learn more about it when the company officially makes this feature available for everyone.
