Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 Could Finally Get 5G Support

Now that the Galaxy S26 has launched, attention is quickly shifting to what we might see this summer. Samsung first released the Galaxy Watch Ultra in 2024 alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6. A successor was rumored to launch alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 (review) and Galaxy Z Flip 7 (review). However, Samsung only doubled the storage and released it as the Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025).
Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 may finally move beyond 4G-only connectivity
However, it looks like Samsung is finally planning a successor, and there may be some real upgrades this time. Folks over at GalaxyClub report that the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 will support 5G connectivity. This means users can expect faster internet speeds and improved calling on the cellular variant. Those opting for the BT/Wi-Fi-only variant won’t see any changes to cellular connectivity.
Earlier this month at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Qualcomm announced its next wearable chipset, the Snapdragon Wear Elite. It also confirmed that the Snapdragon Wear Elite will power the next generation of Galaxy Watch models. The exact models weren’t confirmed, but the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 could feature it, and possibly the Galaxy Watch 9 series as well.
Besides 5G support, Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 could also bring major performance boost
More interestingly, the Snapdragon Wear Elite supports 5G connectivity, along with Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 6.0, NB-IoT for satellite communication, and UWB. No Galaxy Watch model supports any of these features yet. It can deliver up to five times faster single-core CPU performance compared to its previous wearable chips, while GPU performance sees a 7× boost.

All things considered, the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 could mark a significant leap if it arrives with the Snapdragon Wear Elite. The addition of 5G would be just one part of the upgrade. As usual, the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 and the Galaxy Watch 9 series will likely launch alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8 in summer 2026.
