Galaxy Watch 8 Series Pick Up First Software Update in the US

It’s been just over a month since Samsung opened pre-orders for the Galaxy Watch 8 series and now, the smartwatches are finally getting their first software update. The rollout began about a week ago in South Korea. That market is usually the first to receive Samsung’s updates.

The update is now rolling out through Verizon (1,2) (via SammyFans), giving Galaxy Watch 8 owners their first post-launch software refresh. It’s still unclear if the same update is available for the Galaxy Watch 8 series on other carriers or for the Wi-Fi-only model. For Verizon’s Galaxy Watch 8, the build is version L335USQU1AYG4 for the 44 mm model and L325USQU1AYG4 for the 40 mm model. For the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic, the build is L505USQU1AYG4.

Verizon’s changelog doesn’t highlight any new features or major changes. Instead, it only lists “performance improvements” for the devices. The last four letters of the build match the Korean release, which suggests the same May 2025 security patch the smartwatches originally shipped with. The Korean build was about 164 MB, so this one will likely be in the same range.
If you have a Galaxy Watch 8 or Watch 8 Classic in the US, you can install the update by opening the Wearable app on your connected phone. Select your watch, go to Watch settings, choose Watch software update, then tap Download and install. The process should only take a few minutes, depending on your connection speed.
Meanwhile, Samsung has also rolled out the second One UI Watch 8 beta for the Galaxy Watch 7. This update moves that model one step closer to the stable release, which is expected to arrive later this year.
