Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 8 Series Receives First Post-Launch Update

Samsung has started rolling out the first software update for its newest wearables, the Galaxy Watch 8 and Watch 8 Classic. This is a minor release focused on system stability; it doesn’t bring any notable changes or even a new security patch. A more substantial update with feature enhancements and security improvements is likely to follow in the near future.
Galaxy Watch 8 series gets its first update from Samsung
This update for the Galaxy Watch 8 carries firmware version AYG4. The OTA (over the air) package for the Bluetooth-only Classic model weighs just under 164MB, with the changelog listing system stability improvements. The watch remains on the May 2025 security patch that it shipped with. Samsung may have discovered some bugs affecting certain functions and rolled out this update to fix those.
If that’s indeed the case, users may notice smoother performance, better health tracking stability, and overall reliability improvements. The Galaxy Watch 8 duo shipped with Wear OS 6-based One UI 8 Watch out of the box. The new OS brings tons of health features, UI upgrades, and other enhancements.
When the new watches launched, Samsung was still beta testing One UI 8 Watch on the Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra. The company recently ended the beta program for the Ultra model. It plans to expand the update to other eligible devices in the coming months. All Galaxy Watch models launched since the Watch 4 are eligible for the One UI 8 Watch update.
Meanwhile, if you own a Galaxy Watch 8 or Watch 8 Classic, you can check for the new software by heading to the Galaxy Wearable app on your paired smartphone. Navigate to Watch settings > Watch software update > Download and install to see if an update is available. Samsung began the rollout in Korea, so users in other regions may have to wait a few days before the update shows up.
