It’s no secret that Samsung is gearing up to launch its next-generation smartwatches, the Galaxy Watch 8 series. The lineup will include the Galaxy Watch 8 and the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic. Both devices recently passed the CMIIT certification process, hinting at an imminent launch.

Galaxy Watch 8 and 8 Classic clear CMIIT certification ahead of launch

A few days ago, we exclusively revealed the CAD renders and a 360-degree video of the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic. This early look suggests that the rotating bezel is making a comeback with a squircle-shaped frame. Now, the folks over at Xpertpick have spotted the classic as well as the vanilla Watch 8 on the CMIIT (China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) regulatory website.

We can see that the certificates mention model numbers of the upcoming wearables devices: SM-L3350 and SM-L5050. While the listing does not reveal the marketing names, we already know that the former is the Galaxy Watch 8 (LTE), and the latter is the Watch 8 Classic (LTE). Both models support eSIM technology with an independent eUICC chip, allowing users to connect to cellular networks independently.

Unsurprisingly, the CMIIT listing does not reveal any other details, though it suggests that Samsung is inching closer to debuting the Galaxy Watch 8 duo. Previously, the FCC and 3C certification listings revealed that both models will come with support for 10W charging, the same as the 2024 lineup. The devices will likely ship with Wear OS 6-based One UI 8 Watch operating system out of the box.

As for battery capacity, the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic (47mm) may pack a 450mAh battery, while the 40mm and 44mm variants of the Galaxy Watch 8 may feature 325mAh and 435mAh batteries, respectively. Both devices could be powered by last year’s Exynos W1000 chipset, the same as the predecessor.

Meanwhile, Samsung is preparing for its upcoming summer Unpacked event, which could happen sometime in July 2025. There’s chatter that Samsung may unveil both wearables alongside its new foldable lineup during the event. More details should emerge in the coming days. Stay tuned.
