Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold lets you turn a standard smartphone into a tablet, offering an immersive screen while still being pocketable. But how many times can it actually fold or unfold before the hinges weaken? Well, a real-life test video now shows what happens after a certain number of folds and unfolds.

Galaxy Z TriFold has gone through a real-life folding test

The Galaxy Z TriFold comes with inward folding mechanisms: the left panel folds first, then the right. If you fold the panels in the wrong order, the device displays on-screen alerts and vibrates to prevent damage to the hinges or screen. The phone features two differently sized hinges and a dual-rail structure. Samsung also advanced its Armor FlexHinge to bear the unique form factor.

For long-term durability, the Korean firm tested the TriFold’s main display with a 200,000-cycle multi-folding test. This is equivalent to folding the phone about 100 times a day for five years. It also undergoes different scenario-based evaluations.

To test its durability, a South Korean YouTube channel @OMG_electronics repeatedly folded and unfolded the Galaxy Z TriFold (during livestreams over several days). The results showed that the left hinge started making a creaking noise after 61,212 folds, while the right hinge did so after 120,157 folds. Finally, after 144,984 folds, the left hinge lost elasticity.

Interestingly, the screen still worked perfectly, showing that the display is more durable than the hinges. However, it’s understandable that the test didn’t meet Samsung’s claim, since a normal user wouldn’t fold and unfold their phone nonstop for days like in the test. The sensors attached to the screens may have also affected the results.

The Galaxy Z TriFold is now available in multiple regions, including South Korea, China, and the UAE. The device may make its way to the United States in the first quarter of 2026. Rumors suggest it could cost around $2,500 for the 16GB + 512GB model.
