Samsung Looks to Deepen Manufacturing Footprint in India

Samsung is doubling down on India as a key manufacturing and export hub. While the company already operates major production facilities in the country, it is now looking to deepen its footprint by expanding the local assembly of smartphone display panels. Samsung is also open to sourcing chips from domestic vendors, provided they match the global quality standards.

Samsung eyes more incentives as it expands manufacturing in India

India is one of Samsung’s largest manufacturing hubs alongside South Korea and Vietnam. The company has a massive smartphone factory in Noida, as well as various other manufacturing and assembly facilities. It now plans to ramp up production of smartphones and related components in the country.

According to reports, Samsung has applied under the Indian government’s Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme to manufacture components for smartphone displays. Under the program, the government offers tax breaks and other benefits to manufacturers that meet annual production targets set by regulatory authorities. Samsung’s participation signals long-term confidence in India’s manufacturing ecosystem.

The Korean firm has also requested an extension of existing tax incentives tied to smartphone manufacturing. Samsung Southwest Asia President and CEO JB Park confirmed that the company is awaiting government approval to expand smartphone display assembly operations at its Noida plant. Samsung has been assembling display panels at this site since 2021, after relocating those operations from China.

In 2025, Samsung exported smartphones and other devices worth over $4.6 billion from India. That’s 42% of the company’s total revenue from the country, which has crossed $11 billion. Smartphones account for roughly 70% of the total revenue, while the rest comes from home appliances and computing devices. Expanding local manufacturing and assembly might help Samsung boost revenue in India.

Park clarified that Samsung does not plan to move its existing manufacturing operations from Vietnam to India. Instead, the company will continue using India to build additional capacity aimed at meeting new and growing demand. He also noted that Samsung is open to sourcing semiconductor chips from Indian suppliers if they can match global vendors in quality and pricing.

The Samsung executive noted that India is on its way to standing shoulder to shoulder with major global markets like China, Europe, and the United States. In anticipation of that shift, the company is increasingly targeting premium consumers in the country. It plans to drive this strategy through bespoke AI-powered home appliances, Galaxy AI-equipped smartphones, and Vision AI-based TVs and smart monitors.
