Samsung Confirms AirDrop Support is Coming to its Phones, Starting with Galaxy S26

It may not be long before your Galaxy S26 can transfer files to iPhones via AirDrop. A senior Samsung executive recently revealed that the company is working on AirDrop compatibility for Galaxy devices. The Galaxy S26 series will receive the feature first through a software update before it makes it into older models.
AirDrop compatibility could arrive on Galaxy S26 phones soon
Speaking at a recent press conference in Japan, Choi Won-jun, COO of Samsung’s mobile division, confirmed that AirDrop compatibility is on the roadmap for Galaxy devices. According to him, support is expected to debut with the Galaxy S26 series and will be rolled out gradually through software updates. While we still do not have a release timeline, the wait may not be much longer now.
Once this feature rolls out, it will solve one of the biggest interoperability issues between Galaxy phones and iPhones. For years, sharing files between Android and iPhone users has been far from seamless. Apple’s AirDrop works effortlessly within its ecosystem, while Android users rely on alternatives like Quick Share, with no way to connect the two platforms.
Google finally addressed the issue last year, starting with its Pixel phones. Now, Samsung is tapping into the new solution to allow seamless file transfers between Galaxy phones and iPhones. Once fully implemented, Galaxy users will be able to send photos, videos, and large files to iPhones just as easily as they would to another Android device.
Samsung does appear to be working on the first major update for the Galaxy S26 series since launch last month. While it’s unclear if AirDrop compatibility will be part of the package, we hope to see the feature arrive soon. Maybe older models will get it with the stable One UI 8.5 update. Stay tuned for further updates.
