Galaxy S26 Series May Adopt Google’s Built-In Scam Call Protection

Spam calls are annoying, and they remain one of the most persistent problems on our phones, but it’s increasingly clear that the Galaxy S26 series could finally address the issue, and it’ll do so with help from Google. This builds on a previous app teardown that revealed Galaxy S26 codenames.
Galaxy S26 series could be the first non-Pixel phone with Google scam detection
Android Authority reveals the Galaxy S26 series will gain access to Google’s Scam Detection feature. It will be the first time the capability makes it to non-Pixel phones. The finding reportedly comes from internal references that link Samsung’s upcoming devices to Google’s scam protection system.
On recent Pixel phones, Scam Detection runs entirely on-device, analyzing calls in real time to warn users about potential scams. Newer Pixel models rely on Gemini Nano through AI Core, while older devices use Google’s traditional on-device machine learning models. Based on Samsung’s placement in Google’s internal listings, the Galaxy S26 lineup could use the same Gemini Nano-based approach.

In its latest report, the outlet says the feature is tied to a background Google service called Android CallCore, which supports advanced calling features on compatible devices. Android CallCore recently received updates that enable scam call identification, and log data reportedly shows that the Galaxy S26 Ultra already meets the system requirements needed for the feature to work.
If implemented as expected, this would give Samsung users a built-in alternative to third-party spam call apps. Many of which rely on cloud-based databases and raise privacy concerns. Google’s approach processes data locally on the device, reducing the need to share call information externally.
There are still open questions, including whether Scam Detection on Galaxy phones will be available globally or limited to select regions at launch. With Samsung expected to announce the Galaxy S26 series next month, official details should emerge soon. And we can’t really wait.
