Early Leak Suggests No Camera Improvements for Galaxy Z Flip 8

Samsung’s foldable roadmap for 2026 is beginning to take shape, and it looks ambitious on paper. The company could launch three new models: the Galaxy Z Flip 8, the Galaxy Z Fold 8, and a wider Fold. We aren’t even counting a potential second-gen TriFold yet. However, Samsung’s push toward more advanced Fold designs may come at a cost. Early leaks suggest the Galaxy Z Flip 8 could see little to no progress in camera hardware.
Galaxy Z Flip 8 camera specs leak, and they look familiar
A report from GalaxyClub claims that the Galaxy Z Flip 8 will feature a 50MP primary rear camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and a 10MP selfie camera. If this information is accurate, the camera hardware will be identical to the Galaxy Z Flip 7. That’s a disappointing development, especially considering Samsung has been steadily upgrading cameras across its smartphone portfolio.
The contrast becomes sharper when you look at the Fold lineup. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 already introduced a 200MP primary camera, and the upcoming Fold 8 is expected to gain a 50MP ultrawide camera as well. That means the Fold series could see two meaningful camera upgrades in just two generations. The Flip series, on the other hand, appears to be getting none, not even a new selfie camera.
That said, we don’t have full camera specs yet. Samsung could introduce new sensors with the same resolution, at least for the rear cameras. There’s little chance it will switch to a new 10MP selfie shooter, though. If the company switches to a new sensor for the front camera, we should see at least a 12MP unit on the Galaxy Z Flip 8.
There’s also a broader market context worth considering. Interest in flip-style foldables appears to be gradually declining as more advanced Fold models enter the spotlight. Larger displays, multitasking-friendly form factors, and productivity-focused designs are increasingly drawing attention away from clamshell-style phones.
As Samsung expands its Fold lineup with wider and more complex designs, the Galaxy Z Flip risks becoming the “safe” option rather than the exciting one. That shift makes camera upgrades even more important for the Flip series. Unfortunately, the leaked specs suggest Samsung may be playing it too conservatively. We shall find out in a few months.
