Galaxy S26 Ultra’s Dual-Layer Camera Bump Shown Up Close

After several years of using a “floating” camera design, Samsung’s Galaxy flagships are returning to a defined camera island this year. All three Galaxy S26 models are expected to feature a raised rear camera bump. A new leak now offers a closer look at how Samsung has reworked the design to make it look and feel more refined, at least on the Ultra model.

Galaxy S26 Ultra brings a dual-layer camera island for a smoother look
Renowned tipster Ice Universe recently shared imagery showing off the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s rear camera structure. Samsung has adopted a dual-layer camera island design on the new Ultra. The bump is split into two layers to soften the visual transition from the back panel to the camera area. There’s a thin base layer and a thicker top layer, with three cameras protruding out of it.
This isn’t the first time a Galaxy phone has featured a stacked camera bump. However, it’s definitely been a while since we saw a camera island on a main Galaxy S flagship. Considering Samsung’s recent push to unify the design language across its flagship models, we may see a similar camera structure on the Galaxy S26 and S26+ as well.
Samsung is reintroducing the bump to make the phones slimmer. All three Galaxy S26 models should come in slimmer profiles, with the Ultra measuring just 7.9mm. The camera island, however, adds a noticeable amount of depth, with the overall thickness at the camera area reportedly going beyond 12mm. Despite the added thickness, the layered approach should make the back feel smoother and less abrupt when held.
Alongside a bump, Samsung may also bring back metal camera rings. Unlike the thicker plastic rings seen on the Galaxy S25 series, the 2026 models should feature slimmer, more premium-looking metal rings previously seen on the S24 lineup. This design offers a cleaner, more refined appearance, closer to the premium aesthetic we expect from flagship phones.
