Early Galaxy S27 Ultra Leak Hints at Three Major Camera Upgrades

Samsung is entering the final stretch of preparations for the Galaxy S26 launch, widely expected in late February. As usual, the S26 Ultra will sit at the top of the lineup, promising the most premium hardware and features. However, compared to last year’s S25 Ultra, we may not see many radical changes or upgrades. It looks like Samsung is holding back on major camera upgrades until the Galaxy S27 Ultra next year.

Galaxy S27 Ultra tipped for huge camera upgrades

According to prominent leaker Ice Universe, Samsung is already planning three major camera upgrades for the Galaxy S27 Ultra, signaling a more aggressive leap after a relatively conservative S26 generation. The tipster claims upgrades for the 200MP main camera, 50MP ultrawide sensor, and the 12MP selfie shooter.

The source adds that the Galaxy S27 Ultra will feature the same telephoto camera as the S26 Ultra. However, they do not specify if both 3x and 5x zoom units will remain unchanged or only the latter. It’s worth noting that there are contrasting rumors about the 3x zoom camera on the S26 Ultra. Some suggest an unchanged 10MP sensor, while others hint at a new sensor (10MP or 12MP).

As for the 5x unit, it employs a 50MP sensor. Samsung introduced it with the Galaxy S24 Ultra, and it’s all set to carry over unchanged to the S26 Ultra. Even if the 2027 model keeps the same 5x zoom lens, we hope Samsung upgrades to a new 3x unit. That’s if the S26 Ultra doesn’t upgrade the 3x camera, of course.

Interestingly, rumors also suggest an upgrade for the Galaxy S26 Ultra‘s 12MP selfie camera this year. However, Samsung doesn’t usually replace cameras every year, so one of these claims is likely inaccurate. Things should get clearer soon, as the S26 series is less than two months away.
