Samsung Keeps Its Crown in India’s Shrinking Tablet Market in Q3 2025

Samsung is just as popular in India for tablets as it is for Galaxy phones. The company kept its lead in the country’s tablet market in Q3 2025 even as the overall industry shrank. According to new data from IDC, India shipped 1.33 million tablets during the third quarter, a 19.7% drop compared to last year.

But Samsung stayed firmly in first place with a sizable 37.5% tablet market share in India. It led both major segments, capturing 49.7% of the commercial market and 32.6% of the consumer market. For those who may be unfamiliar with the difference, the commercial market refers to sales to institutions and businesses, while the consumer market covers purchases made by individual customers (eg. People like us!)

The consumer segment grew 13.5% year over year, helped by festive season sales, heavy discounts, bank offers, exchange deals, and refreshed product lineups. This was the segment’s best growth in more than ten years. In contrast, the commercial segment fell 53.5% because of delayed education projects, cost cutting by small businesses, and longer device refresh cycles.

Lenovo came in second with a 16.8% share, helped by Motorola-branded tablets and stronger sales to businesses. Xiaomi placed third with 15.5%, boosted by online promotions and bundled accessories. Apple took fourth with 9.2%, supported by steady demand from companies and schools. Acer followed in fifth with 7.9%, thanks to education-focused deals.

IDC said the tablet market in India still has room to grow. As AI features become more common and PC prices keep rising, tablets are turning into a practical choice for first-time buyers and for government-backed programs. And I kind of agree here because affordable tablets can match the performance of an entry-level laptop with much less weight.
