This Patent Shows How Samsung Could Make AR Glasses Comfortable

It’s no secret that Samsung is developing at least two smart glasses based on Android XR to launch within the next two years. However, ahead of their launch, a new patent has come to light that shows an adjustable hinge system for a better fit. It’s unclear if the company will use this design, but it shows that it is aiming for more comfortable wearable AR glasses.
Samsung’s AR glasses patent focuses on comfort and stability
After stepping into the XR market with the Galaxy XR headset, Samsung now aims to expand its presence with more lightweight wearable devices for everyday moments. Of course, the Galaxy XR focuses on immersive mixed-reality experiences, but its bulky build might still limit how long people want to wear it. This is where the Korean firm’s AR smart glasses concept comes in.
Spotted by Xpertpick, Samsung has secured the patent for an Augmented Reality Wearable Electronic Device under the number US 2025/0347929 A1. The document suggests how the company plans to engineer its future AR glasses for a more comfortable product.

According to the filing, the device includes “a body portion having a glass mounting part, a temple member, and a hinge rotatably connecting the temple member to the body portion.” The hinge has a hinge housing that rotates on the body using a first shaft and on the temple arm using a second shaft.
Furthermore, the hinge has a pulley system that connects the two pulleys with a wire. This makes both sides of the glasses move together smoothly. The system also reduces slipping and improves balance for gesture-based AR sessions. While the design exists in the patent, this does not guarantee a commercial product.
Meanwhile, Samsung has partnered with popular eyewear brands, Warby Parker and Gentle Monster, to make its upcoming smart glasses stylish. Stay tuned for more updates.
