A recent Geekbench listing sparked speculation in the Samsung community, as the company appeared to be reviving its discontinued Galaxy A7x lineup. The device, carrying the model number SM-A776B, was assumed to be the long-lost Galaxy A77, the first model in the lineup since the Galaxy A73 in 2022. But the hype didn’t last long, as the listing turned out to be fake.

No, Samsung doesn’t have a Galaxy A77 in the works

The “Galaxy A77” spotted on Geekbench wasn’t a new Samsung phone at all. Instead, someone used a rooted Galaxy S24 FE and manually modified its CPU configuration, making it appear as an unannounced model with a deca-core Exynos processor and Xclipse 940 GPU. This fake profile was enough to fool benchmarking databases temporarily and cause confusion online.

Once the manipulation came to light, the conclusion became clear: Samsung has no plans to launch a Galaxy A77, and the A7x series remains discontinued. The company’s current mid-range lineup continues to be led by the Galaxy A5x series. The upcoming Galaxy A57 will take the top spot in Samsung’s 2026 A-series refresh.

And honestly, it adds up. Samsung’s portfolio doesn’t have room for a higher-end mid-range phone anymore. The Fan Edition “flagship” models already cover the segment above the Galaxy A5x’s typical price point of $500. With that structure in place, the A7x series had no reason to continue, and even less reason to return. Samsung already has too many overlapping models across its lineups, and trimming one of them out is only logical.

Meanwhile, Samsung is expanding its flagship portfolio. This year, it launched five Galaxy S models and three Galaxy Z models, with a tri-fold expected next month. The company also recently introduced an XR headset and is preparing smart glasses for 2026. Some exciting times are ahead for Samsung fans and enthusiasts.
