PSA: Belkin Is Pulling Some Chargers and Power Banks, and You May Get a Refund

Belkin is one of the most popular accessory makers in the US and abroad, but that doesn’t make it immune to problems. In a bit of déjà vu, the company has announced a major recall of three of its portable chargers after discovering that faulty lithium-ion battery components inside them can overheat.
Belkin has announced recall of these chargers and power banks
The issue affects select units of the MMA008 wireless charging stand, the BPB002 power bank, and the PB0003 power bank. If you own any of these models, Belkin is asking you to stop using them immediately. The model number is printed on the underside of the charging stand and on the back of the power banks. You’ll also find a 14-digit serial number there, which is what determines if your specific unit is affected.
Only MMA008 units with serial numbers starting with 57X are affected. For the BPB002 power bank, recalled units begin with 35S. The PB0003 is the outlier here, as every unit is included in the recall, regardless of serial number. In total, Belkin says the recall covers around 83,500 units in the US and another 2,385 in Canada.

How to check and claim your refund
If your device’s model and serial number match the recalled list, Belkin says it’s not safe to keep using. Unplug it from the wall, stop charging anything with it, and start the refund process through Belkin’s recall webpage.
If you still have your receipt, you’ll get a full refund. In case you don’t, you’ll receive the average selling price, or you can choose store credit that’s worth 20% more. Belkin will ask for photos of the product showing the front, back, and serial number.
As a general safety reminder, recalled lithium-ion devices should never be thrown in regular trash or standard recycling bins. Faulty batteries are no small matter, so it is better to act quickly if your charger is on the list.
