Samsung has already unveiled the Galaxy XR headset, which also happens to be the first Android XR device. Now that it’s out, the next wearable everyone’s waiting for is Samsung’s smart glasses. And a new report suggests that the Galaxy Ring could play a much bigger role here.

Galaxy Ring might play nicely with Samsung’s upcoming smart glasses

A report from Android Authority suggests that the Galaxy Ring could work well with Samsung’s upcoming smart glasses. The outlet spotted a line of code while digging the latest Galaxy Ring Manager app update. It reads: “Ring gesture for glasses”. It’s a small clue, but one that gives away a lot. Samsung is already working on a pair of Android XR smart glasses in partnership with Google, Gentle Monster, and Warby Parker.

The plan seems to be to blend the look of regular eyewear with the brains of a spatial computing device, and the Galaxy Ring might just be one of its control tools. Well, you might wonder how efficient the integration could be? The Galaxy ring already supports simple gestures. For example, you can double-pinch to snap a photo or silence an alarm.

Expanding these gestures to work with smart glasses makes sense, especially if Samsung wants to create a seamless way to interact with digital overlays without waving your hands around. The report adds that earlier patents also hinted that the ring could transfer data or control multiple screens, so adding XR functionality fits perfectly into that vision.

But it’s still early and these APK teardown don’t reveal everything. But in most cases, they’re pretty much right given the source has a solid track record. We just hope that we can try and test out how Galaxy Ring and smart glasses integration will work sometime sooner.
