Samsung May End OneDrive Support for Gallery in April 2026

Samsung’s One UI 8.5 update will bring a major change to the Gallery app. A fresh internal build reveals that starting April 11, 2026, Gallery will no longer support OneDrive for backups. This also suggests the company may complete the rollout of its next major software before that date.
Samsung Cloud could return as a backup option in the Gallery
A few weeks ago, we learned that Samsung will remove OneDrive integration from its Gallery app. However, it was unclear when this change would take place. Thanks to the latest One UI 8.5 build, the Gallery app now shows the exact date through a banner (via @nirmalsri7). The description reads, “Sync with OneDrive ending soon. After April 11 2026, Gallery will no longer support syncing with OneDrive.” This gives users a clear timeline to get ready for the change.

Of course, the date might be a placeholder, as One UI 8.5 is still in the testing phase. However, one thing seems almost certain: Samsung will integrate an alternative cloud service into its Gallery app. So, what could be next for users who want to back up their photos and videos?
An earlier report suggested that Samsung Cloud, the company’s in-house cloud service, will make a return for Gallery backups. Previously, Samsung Cloud allowed users to back up and sync photos and videos from the Gallery app. However, after the switch to OneDrive in 2021, users had to rely on a third-party service. Note that Samsung Cloud already backs up device settings, call logs, messages, contacts, etc. Now, by reintroducing its own cloud backup solution to Gallery, Samsung looks to keep everything within its ecosystem.
Samsung’s final One UI 8.5 build may debut alongside the upcoming Galaxy S26 series, expected in January 2026. After that, it will gradually expand to other eligible Galaxy devices over the following weeks. Could April 11 be the deadline for making the latest software available on all eligible models? Only time will tell, so stay tuned.
